Virgin is a big brand with fingers in many different areas of commerce and technology, and with their eclectic track record, it should be no surprise they have an online Bingo offering. In fact, the brand has been around for quite a while in the online Bingo arena.
Whilst it's great to see their familiar logo, and have the confidence that inspires, their actual site is surprisingly drab. It's perfectly functional and well set out, but it feels like it could do with a little modernising. Other than that, first impressions are positive, the sign-up is easy, finding the important information is simple, and you can very quickly get signed up and into the game. Better still, you get a free pound to try out before you even have to fund the account.
As well as the free pound you get to play with, there's the added bonus of a 100% match bonus when you first deposit your money. As it's part of the Parlay network, you need to qualify that bonus by playing through your cash - which is fairly standard and completely understandable. There are further deposit bonuses, and other deposit bonuses are available further down the line.
Parlay's software and ways of working are now familiar with me. Virgin have done some work with the display aspects of the interface, to bring in line with the fairly austere styling of the site and the advertising banners. It's not particularly eye catching like Parlay normally is, but everything's there and works as it should.
Funding the games is easy, choosing the tickets to buy is a breeze and quickly apparent even to someone new to the game online. Like many of the other sites that run the Parlay network, you know the price of the games as the room stays the same price - a bargain 10p a ticket.
For me, the Parlay software is the closest you can get to replicating that real Bingo feel on the PC, but there are still a few things that could be improved. I'd still love to hear the games announced properly and it would also be nice to have more line / full house games, rather than just line, two lines, full house all the time. Virgin have made the software look a little less appealing as well, but it doesn't in anyway detract from the entertainment value.
The game was really busy, so I jumped into the busiest chat room there, which had 70+ people in. As the chat is opt-in rather than thrown-in, the ones in there are all well into the games and chatting so it's a lively community. I was welcomed, and the CMs were helpful and keeping on top of the chat games they were also playing.
The 10p a ticket room offers particularly good value and great prizes - in the late evening there were a over 140 players with the money approximately at the £10 a line, £20 the two line and £90 the full house levels. The 25p room weren't quite as busy, but the prize money was still good
With years of experience in online banking, mobile services and more, you can be assured that you're getting a secure environment with Virgin - everything is padlocked and secure. There are also extra steps for depositing - you need to add a secret word for changing your account details and your password isn't sent out with your username - and you see the padlock in all the right places.
The main problems I've had with Virgin Bingo have been superficial - mainly being the colour schemes and plain styling of the Bingo games. The things that would improve their Bingo game interface are the things that would improve Parlay's software to make it feel just that little bit more authentic.
As well as the big brand security, the site also has lot going for it outside of the Bingo. With regular celebrity chat guests and a range of special offers, bonuses and extra curricular promotions, Virgin makes for a well rounded place to get into the game online, especially if you your self are a Bingo virgin.
