This was a new online Bingo experience for me. You have to download and install software to play the games, rather than play them in a flash window. It's not too arduous a download if you are on broadband, but it would take a while on a dial-up at just over 10mb.
Once it's installed, you are asked to sign up, which is fairly straight forward. Your new password and username are mailed separately. I'd rather be able to choose my username, as it makes it easy to remember when you log in afresh - the one they give you is a bit long and unmemorable.
That aside, finding out about the site and how it all works is nice and easy, and done through the website rather than the Bingo application. The FAQs are well laid out, but do have a few typos, not a major thing but it does impinge on the professional look of the site.
You get a healthy 125% bonus when you sign up - this becomes playable as you use your initial deposit. A handy reminder tells you how much of your cash you have to spend before the bonus money is available to buy tickets.
The software is fairly straight forward - the interface is colourful and animated, everything clearly marked and easy to find. The method of purchasing tickets is a little different to the other sites I've tested so far, in that you can't buy by single tickets, you can only purchase strips of 6. Most people wouldn't be bothered by this, but I like to shake it up once in a while and maybe take a half off one strip and a half off another.
As you play strips, there is a nice zoom feature which allows you to take a peek at the tickets you have if you purchase more than one strip. You get highlighted tickets when you need 3 numbers, but those tickets don't jump to the top of the list like on the Parlay, software. I know it's superfluous, but I'd also like to see a claim button by the tickets, even though you don't have to press it - there's something reassuring about it's presence.
The calling is good and clear, the calls to action and good, but they really should take a look at the wording. I'd rather hear, one line, two lines, full house than the one line, two lines, three lines you get. In the set up options you can change to a male calling voice if you prefer that, or simply turn it off.
The chat room was fairly quiet, but had the usual range of chat room games for bonus money. Unlike the other site's I've been too, there were a lot more pool games were teams of roomies won rather than individual players. This meant for the first time I ended up winning some bonus money in the chat games - always a plus. Folks were helpful and the chat hosts checked in and got us up to speed. There was very little non-game related chat to be fair, but the usual well dones and thank yous were all there.
I was surprised as too how few people were playing the Bingo, most games were in the mid teens for players, with prize money roughly £1.00 a line, £2.50 two lines and £5.00 a full house. This was peak times in the evening at the end of the week, so I would have expected it to be a bit busier.
I wonder if the fact it's and install game puts players off? It's a shame, the cost of the tickets was good value - there were a number of buy two get one free games, and the prize money went up for them games as players took advantage of the offers (I know I did!)
Some people don't like playing for such low prize money. However, I like playing for less money when I have more chance of winning - and win I did. Ruby Bingo proved to be the most lucrative games I'd played. I won lots of times over the two nights I played, albeit small wins, it felt good to have so many claims in one evening.
The small amount of players also makes the games run longer, which personally I find more exciting, I like seeing one or two red alerts around my tickets showing I'm waiting for one number - it still gets the pulse going, even if its only for a fiver or a £1.50 line.
As the sign up and sign ons all take place via the programme you install, it's hard to confirm the security levels you are experiencing. I'm also weary of install these sorts of programmes on the PC as they often do stuff I don't like them doing. Ruby's programme is quite a clean install though - by which I mean it doesn't seem to add anything nasty, make itself a start-up programme or try to connect to the internet when it's not running. It also gives you an uninstall option - so it's OK by me.
All transactions are done over the application, so no personalised details are entered or held at the website. They do email you your password, which is a bit of a downside - but as long as your PC security is good, that shouldn't be to much of an issue.
I really enjoyed the Ruby Bingo experience, despite the fact there were a few things I don't enjoy doing (installing software, buying strips instead of tickets and not being able to shrink the game right down whilst I work in other windows). The software works well and is fairly straight forward, and the animation and effects are nice and add to the atmosphere.
I'm guessing Ruby Bingo need to do a bit more work on bringing the punter numbers up, but as it stands, I like their range of games and the good value they offer on the tickets. The game play is engaging and easy to follow. There's lots of freebies in terms of ticket sales, and despite the fact the prize money was a bit low, I don't mind when I'm winning it or in with a good chance of winning it! The onlines I'd be happy for my nan to play at, and as a result, I'm happy to recommend them to you.
