The site instantly stands out as classy and well laid out. Their style is based on 50s and 60s Americana and distinctive among many of the sites I've seen. The layout is nice and all the important information is easy to get to. One small gripe at this stage was that a lot of the FAQs and information you need are in a small fonts. As you may have spotted here, I like my fonts big enough to read without squinting up to the screen.
Sign-up was a breeze, no horrid suprises instore there and it's all done over a padlocked connection. Click the link in the confirmation email and you're away (make sure you've remembered your password as they sensibley don't email them)
You get a 100% cash match bonus and 50% bonus on all subsequent deposits. Bonus pounds have some conditions applied - you have to qualify them up to 95% before you earn them. One thing that struck me was the need to qualify your bonuses. I'm still not 100% sure how that all works, so maybe that could be explained a little clearer. As this is my first online Bingo site, I want to see if this is a common thing in online Bingo. I expect it will be.
The chat room was buzzing, it took me a wee while to get used to what was going on, as they play bonus games within the chat room where players can earn bonus pounds. Everyone was really friendly, and when I told them I was new they were all helpful. The bonus games they play in chat added an extra edge to the proceedings so I was looking at both the main game and the sub game. The game hosts made an extra effort to keep everyone involved and gave good tips on when the good times to come and play were.
Well, it took a literally seconds to get going - the flash app opens in its own window, click the tickets you want to buy and sit back. You can play along or just let the auto fill go. I started on the 20p a game tickets. Look out for special offers, in this case buy 5 and get 1 free making it an attractive £1 a strip. there are cheaper games, but at the time I started they were empty.
One thing that niggled me was that the caller didn't say things like 'eyes down for the full house' or similar calls to action. The auto filling of the books was easy to get into, and it took me a minute to realise the tickets were ordered by remaining numbers to mark. Helpfully as you got down to three numbers the colour changed to alert you that you were nearing a shout. I was sweating a few times and eventually rewarded a share of a small win. Not bad for a first go.
One thing I liked was the claim windows, I found myself groaning as I waited for numbers, then the claim window pops up - much like real life Bingo.
My first games were midweek in the late afternoon, the rooms were quiet and the players barely into double figures. Given that, I was surprised at the amount of prize money. The average game had around 15 players. The lines were around £3, the 2 lines (I'm not a fan of 2 lines) £5 and the house around £7. I've seen 30 or 40 people sit in a Bingo hall and play for a lot less, so that was a pleasent surprise.
In the evening things picked up - between 8 and 10 the games were £10 line, £15 for 2 lines and £20 for the full house. Every hour there's a straight full house for upto £600, depending on how many numbers it gets called.
Funding the account took me to a payment method I'd not seen before, but it all looked secure and worked without hiccup. Everything feels solid and right - but I did notice the actual game window wasn't padlocked, unlike the rest of the account pages. I'm assuming it's unnecessary. As long as the ability to fund the account is all on secure servers, I'm not so worried. Funding it from the game area takes you back to the padlocked secure area.
As this was my first experience, it was very positive and I enjoyed it a lot. The games were nicely paced, the prize money, whilst not major always felt like it was within my grasp. The layout is nice and everything is very intuitive.
There are a few little niggles that I feel would improve it for me - larger fonts, clearer communication on qualifying wins and a more exciting calling voice. I'd also like to see lower limits on the amount you can withdraw - it's a £30 minimum withdrawl, after you've paid in £25. I suppose if you play a lot that's not a big deal - but if you don't play on a regular basis, it can be a bit of a barrier.
All in all though, I was very impressed with it. As a first go, I'm eager to see if the experience is as easy and fun on other sites. Overall rating - 8/10 (May 9th 2006)
*Note* Since this review I have had more to compare Bingonanza to, in terms of good online experience and value for money. Some of Bingonanza's terms aren't up to the high standard set by some of the other sites I've visited (high withdrawal levels) and as a result their score has been docked some points. 6/10 (December 21st 2006)
