News from the Bingo Association that Gala Bingo have pulled out of the UK trade body. I suppose it's not surprising, following their departure from the National Bingo Game, it seems Gala Bingo are intent on going it alone at the moment. It was interesting to see the Bingo Association's spin on the departure, stressing not that Gala had left the association, but that the association still offers a strong voice for the UK's Bingo industry.
Figure wise the Bingo Association still represents 75 operators, which still include Mecca Bingo, Top Ten and other smaller chains. The rest of that number includes a large amount of independent clubs and operators, but Gala, with its 170 odd clubs represents a large chunk. The Bingo Association will be continuing its lobbying of the government over taxation issues and the like for the good of the whole industry, and let's hope the body doesn't lose any more members in the near future.
