The Bingo Association posted yesterday that it was impatient at the lack of a response from the Government. It's been more than 50 days since to the Minister for Sport's promises of good news for the industry with regards to change the limits of £500 jackpot slots allowed in Bingo clubs. Their protestations might just have stirred the Gerry Sutcliffe to act, according to Reuters, an announcement could be made tomorrow.
According to an unnamed source, the limit of 4 £500 jackpot machines per clubs could be raised in accordance with the size of the Bingo hall, up to 14 or 15 machines. As to how much of an impact this would have on the clubs is another matter, with the lack of movement from the Government on issues related to Bingo, by the time these new measures are implemented, even more clubs could go to the wall. This small victory will be little more than a sticking plaster for the beleaguered retail industry, there are more things it can do to improve its lot other than relying on a small sector of the club for so much of it revenues. Mecca's partnership with Gamestec to supply arcade style slot machines is just one such initiative that could supply answers to drop in revenues.
