I just spotted news from the FT that Ladbrokes have decided against moving into the casino market in the UK, and will not be bidding on any of the 16 licenses for casinos that have come out of the failed super casino plan of the UK government. You might be wondering what this has to do with Bingo, but there is a side effect of this plan.
I've covered stories on potential buyers for The Rank Group (Mecca Bingo) a number of times in the past, and one name that's popped up again and again was Ladbrokes Bingo. Their interest in The Rank Group stems more from a need to acquire the group's casino section of the business. Now that Ladbrokes have decided to stay out of the casino market, The Rank Group is no longer of interest to them. This one's going to run and run I think.
