Big news in the online bingo world - the Bingo network provider Globalcom Limited has been bought by the online gambling firm 888.com. The Chief Executive Officer of 888, Gigi Levy said it was purchased with the aim of "diversifying our product offering".
888 are not the first of the UK's big, publicly traded, online gambling companies to put a toe into the online bingo. PartyGaming launched their own Bingo brand in PartyBingo the end of last year - and other bricks and mortar betting companies are taking steps into the Bingo arena (William Hill and Ladbrokes Bingo.) However, the Globalcom Network are a major player in the UK Bingo market, powering 45 UK online bingo sites, so this is a major purchase way beyond anything done until now.
I've vented about the poor quality of the current Globalcom platform on a number of occasions, so hopefully, with this acquisition, 888 can do something to improve the poor software they've just bought into and make it a better all around Bingo experience for the UK's online bingo players. Time will tell.
