There's been a few news stories the last couple of days involving the bricks and mortar Bingo industry and crime, so here's a round up of events. Firstly, the now empty La Scala Bingo hall in Runcorn was set on fire by arsonists. The building is waiting conversion into apartments, so either way, the decor of another classic Bingo hall is on its way out.
In other news, the Gala Bingo at Glasshoughton, Castleford was targeted by armed robbers on Wednesday night. The robbery failed as the robbers were unable to gain access to the club. The local Police are seeking information and can be contacted on (01977) 601059.
Taking a pro-active approach to a clutch of recent distraction burglaries in the area, Police in Basingstoke are targeting Bingo clubs and other venues frequented by the elderly to raise awareness. Posters and handouts warn people to be aware and to "Stop Check Chain."
