Leven Gala History And Background

It was eyes down for the final time on Friday the 31st, as another Gala Bingo Hall opened its doors for the last time. Local resentment, and local political intervention could not save the venue, as owners Gala Coral Group claimed that the closure was inevitable, and unavoidable.

The fight to save the club played out in the local press, with the owners eventually expressing regret, but reaffirming their conviction that due to increased taxation the club was no longer financially viable. Leven Gala will be sorely missed by its regulars, and offers by Gala for free buses to alternate Gala venue have been met with anger and rebuff.

"As a former employee at the Leven club during the 80s and early 90s pre Gala days, I have very fond memories of my time there, we were on first name terms with many of the regular players and while it was a business it was also a fun place to work." (September 2009)
