Carlton Bingo
Gorgie Road
Edinburgh
EH11 2ND (View map)
Closed: June 2006
Originally the Tivoli Picture house, the Bingo hall closed in 2006 after a long run, under ownerships of Mecca bingo, and latterly Carlton Bingo. A grade 2 listed building, it was of the art deco style which most of the theatres of the day were. It opened as a Bingo hall in 1973, and lasted 23 years before it's closure.
It is no longer a bingo hall, it is now used as a Rock Gospel venue, and the building itself remains relatively intact. Although it's purchase by a church may not hearten local bingo players, at least the building has remained within 'the community', as opposed to being converted into a profit making venture such as a block of flats, so there is still some hope left for the future.
