Mecca Bingo Waltham Cross, High Street Background And History

At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of Mecca Bingo Waltham Cross. We do however know a bit about the venue's history.

The venue first opened in 1913 as the Electric Palace, a small cinema with seating capacity of 600. It reopened as the Regent Cinema in 1931 after being bought out by the Shipman & King circuit. The reopening was accompanied by an expansion of 100 seats and the addition of a car park and a new entrance.

The cinema closed in 1972, and was converted into a Mecca Bingo club. The club closed in 1986, and the building has since been demolished: the Eternal Youth health club now sits where the bingo hall and cinema once were.

If you have any further details that may assist us, and you would like to share them with our readers, we would love to hear from you. You will be doing a service to the bingo community and posterity by helping us record details of all Britain's bingo clubs and halls. Thank you.
