Brooksby's Bingo Homerton, Brooksby's Walk Background And History

At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of Brooksby's Bingo in Homerton. We do however know a bit about the venue's history.

The venue was originally the Castle Electric Theatre, a small cinema with seating for 619. It opened in 1913 as an independent, although it was taken over by S.M. Super Cinemas in 1943, and then in 1954 it became part of the Essoldo group. The cinema lasted another four years until it was converted to a bingo hall, making it one of the earlier cinema to bingo conversions.

Despite a reasonable run, it closed in 1979, but reopened as an independent in 1994 with bingo operating in the stalls. The building underwent a major renovation in 2006, and the whole of the building is now solely used for snooker.
