De Luxe Bingo Lochgelly, Bank Street Background And History
Not too much is known about this Lochgelly Bingo hall, so, if you know anything about it please let us know. We do know that it was originally the Cinema De Luxe, a modest venue which opened circa 1903, with a seating capacity of 1190. In the 1930s it was remodeled in the art-deco style, and by looking at the photos below, we are guessing that the pinnacled frontage was added at this time also. Many cinemas of the era were constructed with similar 'fin' shaped structures at the front of the building.
We do know that is is now used as a builders merchants, so again we are guessing, that the interior is probably not quite what it used to be. Having said that, at least the building is still standing and there is therefore hope that it will someday return to host entertainment for local people in some form (not that we don't wish the best of luck for its current owner).
