Regal Bingo Holyhead, Stanley Street Background And History

At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of the Regal Bingo Holyhead, but we do know a bit about about the venue's history.

The venue originally opened in 1920 as the Empire Cinema, a small cinema with a seating capacity of 740. The cinema was twinned in the seventies, and after a couple of changes of chain ownerships became an independent in 1986.

It was later taken over by Peter Moore (owner of Focus Films) who noted that it would be a family entertainment venue. He opened the cinema with a couple of Disney classics, however the good public intentions of Mr. Moore hid a darkside. Whilst he was planning a program of family friendly movies during business hours, during his spare time he was a serial killer. He was eventually charged with the murder of four gay men who he stabbed, apparently 'for fun', and is currently serving a life sentence.

The cinema reopened in 1999, but by now only the circles held a cinema, as the stalls had been converted into the Regal Bingo Club. The club closed in 2008.
