Winners Bingo Bury St. Edmunds, Hatter Street Background And History
At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of the Winners Bingo Bury St. Edmunds, but we do know a bit about about the venue's history.
The Hippodrome was opened in 1909, a relatively large theatre with 1,800 seats and a 24 feet wide proscenium. It was converted into a full time cinema in 1920, although this meant a reduction of half the seats as part of the building was sectioned off. Renamed the Essoldo after a takeover in 1947 it ceased operating in 1966 when it became a bingo club, the 'Lucky 7'. Its other owners have included Ladbrokes, and Top Rank. There is talk of the venue being used again as a cinema, which would hopefully mean that the building retains its original decor and structure.
