Spoilt By The PETs
First, I'll give the positive side of my experiences at this club: The staff are fantastic, very warm, friendly and welcoming. The club interior is slightly more up market than a lot I've visited. The food & drink are very good and competitively priced. The prize money is good, and the "National" game is usually called on a believable mid 40 numbers, unlike a lot of CASTLE bingos in the area where it takes upwards of 57 numbers or more to call the "House". For this part I'd give Mecca 4+ out of 5.
The bad points: The last time I played there (January 2011) will be just that i.e."the last time", for which I'll now explain: Throughout the evening a total of 61 claims were made, sometimes 2 or more callers on the same 1 x line, 2 x lines, or full house, of these claims NO LESS than 47 claims were made by PET machine users, leaving only 14 claims actually made by paper book players
This leads me to wonder how random the game actually is, because it seems that the number generator favours PET machines over paper books. I questioned a member of staff, who nonchalantly replied that there were more PET machines in use that night compared to paper books, so they were bound to win more prizes statistically.
PET machines can automatically mark a dozen or more sets of books, and the club (in line with most other Bingo clubs) actively encourages their use by offering free sets of books, the more you buy. To my mind this DOES NOT encourage RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING! PET machines or their derivatives, (Game Mates, Bingo Bee's etc) offering multiple books of tickets, greatly stack the odds of winning against the paper book players.
Very few people could mark with a pen/dabber more than 2 sets of books at most, but the electronic bingo gaming machines I've mentioned in this review can mark dozens even hundreds of books automatically. In America such gaming machines have been totally banned from use in many states.
Some people may be physically unable to mark a paper book, and for that reason a PET machine or similar is a Godsend, but to encourage "fair play" and "responsible gambling" all such machines for ALL players should be limited to NO MORE THAN 2 sets of books. For the "bad" points of this review Ill give Mecca Swansea a 1 minus out of 5.

Too Many PETs
I have been a regular at this club for several years, and I have never won anything and must confess that until K.Ballantine (February 2011) reported the high ratio of wins on the pet devices that I hadn't noticed, so it's little wonder that I have never won there! So once, sometimes twice a week for the last 2 weeks I have been keeping a check on the wins of the PETs and sure enough every time that I played, the PETs were winning 7 out of 10 prizes all through the games, that's 70% wins to the PETs.
I would like to thank K.Ballantine for bringing this to my attention and now me and my friends and family of over a dozen players will never ever play there again. We are absolutely disgusted that the management allow the PETs to be set to win so many prizes, surely this is illegal!

Not Happy
Club is quite big. Food and drink average. Staff accommodating. Good sized car park. I originally thought that a certain K.Ballantine had sour grapes but, I've now played there about a dozen times and sure enough the Mecca Max machines do actually win in excess of 3/4 of the cash prizes and a few of them notched up several wins on one machine in the same session and have done on each occasion I've played there. If you like to mark a book and hope to win then I'd advise you not to go here but if you're a max machine player which I am not then you're all but guaranteed a win at this club. I'm now of the opinion that these machines are grossly unfair and am seriously thinking of setting up and e-petition at E-petitions-Directgov to get them banned.
