The Friendliest

My wife and I have visited Usk Way many times and have found it to be the best bingo hall around the South Wales Valleys for friendliness, especially Marie behind the bar, Dan the caller and Ed and Marcus the managers. They all make you feel very welcome so come along and have a great night out.

Short And Sweet

Positives greatly outnumber the negatives for once. (I must be slipping). This, in my opinion is the best club in the "Castle Leisure" group. It's the club with the biggest seating capacity of the group, something that is reflected in the excellent prize money offered.

Good payouts on the "mini cash" games too, though unlike the other clubs they don't display on screen the number of players taking part. I've had little to do with the staff as yet, but those I have spoken to have been courteous and helpful.

The food and drink are on par with the other Castle clubs, being good and keenly priced. The club interior is split over 2 floors, and is bright, roomy and pleasantly maintained. The in-house keeping is well up to expected standards. Other Castle clubs would do well to aspire to this one. Only the distance from my home (Brackla, Bridgend) stops this being my "club of choice" to play at.

I have so far reviewed 2 other Castle Bingo clubs (Bridgend & Canton, Cardiff) and the one thing that dominates my experiences at each is the use of Bingo gaming machines, namely Bingo Bee, GameMates & PETs, and sadly in this respect Usk Way will not be immune to my observations.

Negative: (Grudgingly given but it needs to be said). I last played on a Sunday evening, and the "Teaser", "Early" & first half of the main books, where the prize money was relatively low (but still higher than other Castle clubs) the prizes won were roughly 60/40 (nearly a believable 50/50 then) in favour of the paper books, but the second half (£1000.00 houses) favoured GameMates 90/10.

The second half was "treble chance" 1 x line, 2 lines, full house, and one GameMate called 2 lines, and when this claim was checked and play resumed, the very same GameMate called the full house on the very next number called. Now, this might have been a coincidence, and had I not played at other Castle clubs, then I would have accepted as much, but for me, the facts speak for themselves. Coincidence & GameMate can't be used in the same sentence.

I would have given this club a full 5 out of 5, but it fell at the last hurdle because of the GameMates. Truly, the "Jewel in the Crown" of the Castle Leisure Group, and if this (and all the other clubs) evened up the amount of paper books and GameMate books in play at each club, then my reviews would be much more favourable.

Calling Problem

I have been playing bingo at the Castle Club Newport for over 14 years. I thought the onus is on the player to stop the game when claiming, but twice now the manager has been calling and stopped the game without anyone shouting or whatever and asked if theres a claim. And then, someone has shouted, not only does this take the fun out of bingo but surely this is against the rules
