Club Background And History
Barkingside Gala Bingo is located in the premises of an old theatre and offers bingo players the opportunity to play bingo everyday, and it regularly runs promotions to give you better value for your money, including free bingo - give them a ring to see when you can grab a chance to play for free.
Barkingside Gala resides in what used to be the very impressive State Cinema. Opened in late 1938, it was an independent, with a ballroom, and had seating for over two thousand. It was designed by George Coles who was one of several architects who specialised in cinema design.
During the war the cinema was bombed, and was taken over by the War Office. In 1947 it joined the rapidly swelling ranks of ABC Cinemas, who altered the interior and reopened the venue in 1964. In 1972 it went the way of many cinemas, and became a 'cine-bingo' venue. The bingo was originally operated by 'Star' although at some point Gala took over but we don't know exactly when. Unfortunately the cinema side of the operation ceased in 1984, and that part of the building remains unused.
The club is located in the centre of Barkingside, it has a bar, diner, and slot machines if you fancy a little spin while you're waiting for the game to start. There are disabled facilities and 60 car parking spaces are available. Please contact us if you can give us more information on this club's background or history.
