Club Background And History
The Astoria would appear to be one of those rare gems, an old cinema building that retains its old features. It was opened as the Astoria Cinema in 1934, with 1,500 sets, having a sizeable 50 foot proscenium, and dressing rooms. It had a brief stint under the ownership of County Cinemas in 1935, but was taken over by an independent, who ran the cinema until it cinema closed in 1963. Straightaway after the closure it reopened as Astoria Bingo.
