Club Background And History
Royal George Bingo sits in the premises of what used to be the George Cinema. It originally opened in 1939 as the County Cinema, and although not Edinburgh's biggest, it certainly must have been impressive. The interior decor included walnut panelling, and Art Deco motifs, and the exterior had a glass tower which no longer exists. The cinema was taken over by the George Palmer circuit and continued to show films until the 1970s. Only part of the building is used for bingo, the rest being disused at the time of writing, the circles being cordoned off.
