Club Background And History

Cardiff's Newport Road Club was opened in 1994, and like its sister club on the other side of the river, it was purpose built for bingo, which is always a good thing, even though we do like those converted old theatres. The club is easily accessible by public transport, and parking is available. It is located on business/entertainment park, and is a good choice for a stop on a big night out, as it is right next to a bowling alley, restaurants and more.

Best Club

Fantastic Club best I have ever been to. I've tried many other clubs and always go back to Newport Road. The managers and staff are fantastic, friendly and always helpful. Come along and try it.

Top Marks To The Staff And Club

I've played at this club a number of times now and have been pleasantly surprised. The decor is the usual Castle standard and is bright and cheery, though the club itself appears (maybe an optical illusion) to be one of the smallest. The floor staff are among the best I've experienced, happy and eager to please/help, which proves that maybe not all Castle staff are the same after all, and this one levels with Bridgend staff for friendliness.

The main bingo callers (and mini cash for that matter) have a clear constant speed of delivery of numbers; I'd even go as far as to say probably the best I've heard throughout the group. The prize money overall, is pretty good though one strange thing I've noticed is that not many people play the "teaser" or "early" flier, with most preferring to start with the main books. Regular readers will be very surprised to find that I have no real negative comments about this club; I do however have some NEUTRAL comments:

#1.The club promotes the use of "Bingo Bees" and if only these were limited to a maximum of TWO sets of books, and ONE machine per player, then my reviews would be both shorter and more favourable, though, to be fair, at this club the win ratio was very much more evenly balanced (hence my neutral comment) and I hope that this is maintained throughout every visit I make. I've noticed quite a few instances of player greed however, with some playing "Bingo Bees" AND paper books! I can't excuse this as it proves PURE GREED by players (and Castle Leisure for allowing it).

#2.(Tongue in cheek comment) the food portions are noticeably smaller than other clubs (I need to lose weight anyway, so that could be a good thing).

Back to seriousness: #3. The entrance to the club is a little bit hidden (don't blink or you'll miss it) it's IMMEDIATELY before the "Murco" garage, and if you miss it, then you'll have to traverse a one way system (dual carriageway) to get back to the club entrance, so PAY ATTENTION there at the back! Slow down and cut in by the Murco garage.

As I said neutral comments, no negatives. I like Castle Bingo, Usk Way Newport very much, but this club, (Castle Bingo Newport road CARDIFF), being nearer to my home could well become my "club of choice" maybe twice a month. (It's a 50 mile round trip, but worth it).

I make no excuses for being critical of Castle Bingo Clubs, the Bingo Bee/GameMate issue has been well documented by me and, where I see such machines winning an inordinate amount of prizes above and beyond fair play, then I will continue to highlight the matter through my reviews.

As I found NO negatives with this club, I feel it only fair that it receives a full 5 out of 5 for this review. I've played there a number of times and don't imagine standards slipping, but if anyone will find fault, then rest assured it will be me. A thundering good job, well done to this club.
