Club Background And History
Although we don't know much about Hippodrome Bingo, apart from its session times, we do know a bit about the venue's past. The Hippodrome was opened in 1909, a relatively large theatre with 1,800 seats and a 24 feet wide proscenium. It was converted into a full time cinema in 1920, although this meant a reduction of half the seats as part of the building was sectioned off. Renamed the Essoldo after a takeover in 1947 it ceased operating in 1966 when it became a bingo club, the 'Lucky 7'. Its other owners have included Ladbrokes, and Top Rank.
If you play bingo at this club you won't unfortunately be able to see the original plasterwork form the theatre's early days, as it is obscured by a suspended ceiling. However, it's nice to know that it's still there, and one day maybe it will be revealed in all its splendour.

Unfair Treatment
I played at this bingo on the boards, and I won. They said I didn't have my money in and when we complained they gave all sorts of excuses and never paid me my money. They are a very unfair bingo as I did pay my money, the machine must have jammed.
