I always try to put good deals away, especially with five grandkids. A good trick is to check out the after-holiday sales, such as Easter, pick up things that are basically non-holiday, and put them away for gift-time.
For example, I picked up some lovely fuzzy stuffed bunnies at the sale really, really cheap. My oldest grandson got one for his birthday this July. His sister will probably get hers on her b-day in December.
Another good place to scout for future presents are at the grocery outlets that are becoming so popular now. A few years ago we picked up a couple of soaps for cheap that are shaped like sea creatures and they have a light implanted in the soap that will flash on and off. My grandkids went spare over those! We went back and bought their entire stock and dole them out for Xmas, b-days, whenever. At those times, my oldest granddaughter will ask me if I asked Santa to bring some more of the flashy soap to her! (Her birthday is just past Xmas, so she thinks Santa has to do with both days).
