I don't know about anyone else on here but I am ready for my sons to head back to school. I love them to death and enjoy them but man I need a break.

I know what you mean Tater, I find the holidays make constant demands on my pocket too. My son seems to be enjoying himself in his own unique way. He got me up at about 12.30am to watch two moths mating on the bathroom window. Poor moths, it didn't seem very exciting and it certainly wasn't quick! Last night we were out bat watching, they are fascinating to watch but they fly so fast. I am enjoying a bit of free time while he plays a game on his psp, but no doubt he will soon want me to get involved in whatever activity he has chosen today.

We used to live in a neighbourhood of old wooden houses, where there were also a few decrepit old barns. A big family of bats lived somewhere around and we used to love to watch them doing their acrobatics. There was also a gorgeous white owl (kind of like Hedwig) and whenever it flew over our house you could tell it was coming because it emitted a series of clicks. I can remember my son bursting out of his bedroom late on a summer night yelling, "The owl's coming!" Our daughter was out of her room like a shot with dad and me in close pursuit. It was one of the most beautiful sights to see. A couple of nights when we had guests they didn't know what to think with the kids rampaging out the door yelling "The owl's coming!"

We have tried to take the kids to do a variety of different things this summer. But alas, I try to make sure they spend some time outside, cause they can use their imaginations, ride bikes, jump on trampolines, etc etc etc.

My son is not an enthusiastic 'outside' person, and when he does go out his PSP always goes with him, but I think he uses his imagination when he is on his laptop too. He has been working on several pieces of animation during the holidays and I am surprised how good they are.

That's great, Just, with your son's animation. There is definitely something something he can excel at, perhaps in the future as well. Good luck to him and his animating!

You are right Molly he is good at all sorts of geeky things, but I really wish he excelled at tidying his bedroom as well!

Ah, Just, some time's that's just asking for too much of the male species!
Not trying to be sexist; it just seemed that my daughter caught on to tidying her room a whole lot faster than my son...
