I never knew that about the term "Bubba". Then again I have not heard anyone called this though. I have not yet been called ma'am but know that it is coming.
I wasn't entirely sure where the term Bubba came from, but it always brings to mind for me a very overweight bloke, with rolls of stomach hanging over his waistband. Not a nice image, however you look at it!
Politicians do it as well, as in,"You told me your name and see, I haven't forgotten."
At least if they get your name right you know that at least one word of what they say is accurate. That would be quite good going for some of our politicians!
One of our friends was elected to the city council a couple of years ago and he's really into it. He gets in "councilman mode" and he's looking us directly in the eye, using our name in every sentence, shaking our hands and putting his hand on our shoulders...it's pretty funny! He is a good councilman though.
Being able to change personas so quickly has to be a positive boon to a politician. I think they're alot like actors in that they eat up applause and glory in attention.
Remembering names is something I'm pretty good at, but at the moment we have a guest who I have a real mental block with. Every time I go to say it there is this pause whilst my brain flounders around trying to find it1 It's so embarassing.
