I know what you mean Molly, I love my cats too, but they live life on their terms. There is no point blaming them for anything because they couldn't care less. My dog on the other hand is very good at passing the blame. She has a bit of a flatulence problem and when she has 'caused offense' she gets up, gives my husband an accusatory stare and walks away!

LMAO! You reminded me of our old miniature schnauzer my family had as a child. As schnauzers have those large "eyebrows", their faces can be very expressive. My big brother would blame Shaggy for any flatulence in the room, and the dog would leave the room, looking very wounded, as in "How can you accuse me of such a thing?"

Molly, I need another lesson in American English please. What exactly does the term 'blow off' mean? I'm guessing it means to ignore, but it is not a term we are familiar with in UK.

All I can say on this is we have a dog that can have some nasty gas. He is the first anything that has made me get out of bed in the middle of the night cause the room stunk so bad.

The only time our dog disturbs us at night is when there is a thunder storm. She gets very frightened and we have to let her hide under our bed.

Yes, "to blow off" means ignore, put off, to consciously not do it because you bloody well don't want to do it!
Another Americanism close to it is to "shine on", which means the same but might be a less vehement way to put it.
To shine on someone means to ignore, but to blow someone off has more of a "finger" to it.

I am completely and totally blowing off a deep cleaning of my house. It needs it DESPERATELY but I just don't have enough hours in the day to do it.
