I think it is easier to teach potty training and associated routines to little girls. Boys get the hang of it in their own time, but do they ever learn to do all those other little jobs like putting their clothes in the laundry basket, putting their shoes away, hanging things up, turning lights off, making their bed etc. I still have to nag my son to do those things.

I didn't like my son's first girlfriend at all, but I did have to tip my hat to her in one regard. Like most boys there were booby traps of dirty dishes all over his room. No amount of pleading, yelling, etc, could stop him from leaving nasty crusty dishes. The first time Snippy (not her real name) went into my son's room and found dishes, she said, "Eeeew, that is so gross!" Then she found all of my son's deposits and put them in the kitchen. Never again did I ever find dirty plates in his room again, even after she dumped him. (Thanks, Snippy!)

The joys of girls making boys do things you would never thought they would do. I have two sons and I cannot get them to keep their room clean for nothing.

I think my son's room would even defeat Mary Poppins! He and I are going to start spring cleaning it on Monday, the problem is that in a couple of days it looks as bad as ever.

It is funny how fast they can mess it up again. It sometimes is almost not worth even cleaning it but it has to get done.

I think that's another thing the little boys like to try out, going in the garden. As long as dad doesn't do it, the little guys can be distracted from it.

I am sure my son puts in far more effort to avoid doing his room than he would need to keep his room tidy in the first place!

For his third birthday, our grandson got a "big boy bed". I didn't have the heart to tell our daughter that he can mess twice as fast if he isn't confined to a crib.

I expect she found out for herself fairly quickly! It seems to be part of their job description to leave a trail of destruction behind them.

That's for sure. When my husband wants to know where something is, I'll get up and get it for him, rather than clean up his "searching".
