I can remember l my mum ironing and watching her soap operas. I think she quite enjoyed doing it. One summer when I was a girl she had me ironing my dad's pocket handkerchiefs to get me ready to iron more complicated things. Sometime before the next summer came permanent press and I was reprieved.

I always listen to the news on Radio 4 in the mornings, this morning I was surprised to hear that there had been a study into ironing habits in UK. Apparently they have found that the favourite time for doing the ironing is 3pm on a Sunday. I never iron on a Sunday afternoon, I have better things to do. I can't imagine why they needed to do a study on ironing habits, surely they could find something more useful to study.

That's really interesting. I remember my mum ironing on a Sunday morning if we needed something for church, but definitely the mid-afternoon weekday was when she did the large batch.

I don't own an iron. I chucked it out quite a few years ago when I was fed up of it gathering dust.

I wish I was brave enough to do that! What do you do about shirts? I iron about 20 shirts per week as well as all the other stuff, imagine what I could do with all that time if I didn't have to iron.

I try and avoid buying anything that will need ironing, so there are very few shirts that need ironing in my wardrobe. If I have to wear one, then I don't allow it to sit around once the washing machine has ended, I hang it carefully when I dry it, and I wear a jacket!!

My hubby has a few dress shirts that are supposed to be permanent press, but they seem to wrinkle badly if I leave them in the dryer for any length of time. It's true that if you hang them just right and adjust the collars they'll stay unwrinkled.

I buy non iron shirts for my son to wear for school, and I follow the washing instructions but they are not perfect. My husband buys shirts that are a pain to iron, I will have to give him an ultimatum, easy iron shirts or he can do them himself!
