One of my grandmothers smoked too. Her doctor advised her to sit down with a cigarette to calm her nerves after her sister died in childbirth. She smoked for the rest of her life. How times have changed! But I am glad that they have banned smoking in public places, I can't stand it.

My Gran lost her husband to tuberculosis at a very young age, and although she never said, I think he must have been a smoker, and that would explain her vehemence against smoking. When I smoked, I never did it in front of her, mainly to avoid the ticking off she'd give me. I admire that your Gran's willpower. I went cold turkey as well, but I totally moaned about it!!
