Default Interview With Dr Carolyn Downs - Bingo Historian

If you haven't had a chance to check out the interview section recently, there's an interview with Dr. Carolyn Downs there now. If you saw the BBC 2 Money Programme on the Bingo industry recently, then she was the lady who gave the history of the game. As it turns out, she's putting the finishing touches to her book on the history of the game, which will be available in the Autumn. Read the full interview with Dr. Carolyn Downs here.

Thanks for the link. I find it interesting in a way that you can write a book on the history of the game and people are interested. Wish I would have thought of doing something like that.

Very interesting i like how the interview indicates that she looks at the social aspect of the game as well as the history for her research.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to her book as there's nothing out there yet that really covers the history of the game. Also worth looking out for is book coming out soon by historian Keith Laybourn which looks at the history of gambling and class in the UK - a portion of which will cover the history of Bingo in the mid 20th cnetury, and how it was used to fund the political parties.

I would love to read on how it funded the political parties. I had no idea that they ever did. That is interesting to learn.

I couldn't find when it would be out. But I would think it would be very soon if it is slated for and Autumn release.

Yes, it would be fun to study bingo for a living. I would probably never miss any days that's for sure.
