Ohh, funny! So Bingo originally came from Italy. Who knew?

Great article, ninikins.

That is interesting. Bingo is a great game for families because almost any age can play and enjoy with any number of people. My kids and I play it, next time I will tell them the history. Thankx.

My daughter asked me where Bingo came from. Now I know what to tell her. Thank you for the info.

Thank you for the information. Never knew that Bingo orginated in Italy. I also thought the fact that it used to be called Beano very interesting. That it was a mistake that we got the name we now know as Bingo. Thanks again.

I'd love to know more bout the early history of bingo in the UK, in the 1960s and 70s. It seemed to be a lot more elegant then. When I worked in my first club, I remember seeing a photo from 1972, when they had their first electronic RNG installed. The female mainstage caller wore a full length evening gown, with a big bouffant hairdo. Even when I worked there in the early 90s the manager used to wear a dinner jacket in the evenings. Those were the days...

You know, I'd forgotton about that! But now you mention it I remember it being a lot more of an occassion when I went with an elderly friend years ago. I'm sure there's not many callers would welcome back the evening gown though!

Evening dress for bingo! That must have been quite a sight. Still, I guess every thing's more casual today and I'm kind of OK about that. If I had to get dressed everyday with a girldle and false eyelashes and had to sleep on curlers, I would be a pretty unhappy person.
