Yes I agree Molly, but they were both popular names in England around 1890/1900 so that is why my husbands grandmother thought Emily was a very old fashioned name.

My grandmother was called Ethel, she was the last girl in a big family and she got the worse name. Apparently the next door neighbour said that if my great grandmother called her Ethel the neighbour would buy her a present for her birthday every year.
