It's not doing any favours to kids when parents don't give them any boundaries and let them have their own way in everything. With our kids, we were quite strict with them when they were small, especially that they needed to come to us when we called them, and certainly not to run in the opposite direction (their dad had a bit of a phobia that if the kids ran away, they'd run into the street) . As they grew, we got less and less strict with them, until about the time they were older teens we gave them their heads and they did really well. I can't claim alot of credit with this; their dad was always consistent in making them mind, and they were good kids anyway.
