The Bingo Association Tackle The Government With Facebook

There's been a few more stories floating around about the backlash against the rise in bingo tax at the last budget. Here's another one this time from Rochdale, and one from Lothian. Interestingly, The Bingo Association has turned to the world of web 2.0 to try and get their message across with a campaign on the nation's favourite waste of time, Facebook. They've set up a group called Help Me Fight For A Fair Deal On Bingo and have been busy getting members to join the group, as well as setting up a petition on the No 10 Government site.

All well and good, and about time the old BA woke up to the power of the web, but I do have a slight problem with this campaign. There's no mention anywhere on the group that it's a campaign spearheaded by The Bingo Association. That's a bit naughty in my opinion, as advertisers are no longer allowed to promote stuff in this manner without disclosing that they are doing so. If the association want to be taken seriously by the Government, then resorting to these sort of tactics should be avoided.

I'm a little surprised at your comments Brett!!

For your information the Bingo Association has not been instrumental in any way in setting up the petition on the No 10 website but we are I hope quite WEB friendly!. In fact I believe it was set up by a member of staff from a club.
A 46% increase in Gross Profit Tax to 22% will set a benchmark for government action in other sectors and threatens bingo players everywhere. I urge bingo players around the country to write to Angela Eagle (Treasury Secretary)urging her to recognise the fantastic contribution bingo makes to the nation's social interaction and remove this vicious tax increase!

These comments have nothing to do with Brett, I made them - the site owner David Lloyd. You might not have had anything to do with the Petition, but what about the Facebook campaign? To quote from the BA's website: "Please spare five minutes to join our Fair Deal for Bingo Facebook campaign by following the link below." The bold is mine.

My main problem is with the lack of disclosure on Facebook. No one's arguing that the tax is an issue, that's the point being made in this post.

Well, good to see the text has been updated to say that the person who started the group works in the industry, but still no mention of the Bingo Association on the page.
