Thursday, January 22, 2009I spotted the news story early last week about the closure of the Regent Bingo in Deal, Kent. The club is an independently run one, and has been in the Bingo business since the mid 60s and remarkably, run by the same person since its opening. The club's managing director Robin Bloom blames the smoking ban, online gaming and the opening of another club in the region the main factors in forcing the club's closure. It's a lovely looking club, from the pictures I've seen, and as such I've put together a page for the Deal's Regent Bingo in the Lost Bingo Halls section. There's a few closures I've missed recently, but I'm hoping I can find the time to add some more in the near future. It's always a sad task to do so.

It always saddens me when a bingo hall closes. I find bingo to be such a wonderful social event for elderly people to attend, so to deny us that is truly an unfortunate deed.
