Bingo For Breakthrough 2008 Kicks Off

Without the NBGA Bingo Caller Of The Year competition to remind me of the time of the year, I'd forgotten it was time for that other now popular annual event, Breakthrough For Bingo. Once again, clubs up and down the country will be turning pink for Bingo For Breakthrough Week - which this year will run from the 19th to the 25th October. The week will see a number of pink related fund raising events and awareness raising for the breast cancer charity.

To kick off this year's event, actress Michelle Collins donned a dress made entirely of Bingo tickets. The Northern Echo has a picture of the fetching dress, as well as a bit more info. The ex-East Enders star will be the face of the campaign this year, and encouraging players to get out and play the week the event is on. Last year the week raised a staggering £2.75 million pounds for the charity. There are hopes that this year they can break the £3 million barrier. Good luck to all involved in the event, and if you have any great news and stories about your participation in the event, feel free to contact us and I'll feature it here or on the forum.

Bingo for Breakthrough is a great idea. We asked to be involved this year, but as the NGBA has no online presence we weren't allowed to join in the fundraising.

However, we're still doing our part to raise awareness by 'pinking' our homepage and opening a pink bingo room.

I think it would be great if online bingo sites got together to do something just as good as the land based bingo halls do.
