Monday, October 02, 2006Hmm, well, I reported a while back about the National Bingo Game getting a good rebranding and the site a long needed overhaul. Well, looks like they didn't quite get a good enough job done. Whilst the old site was a bit plain, it at least displayed properly in the FireFox web browser.
I was visiting the new site, I started to wonder why things looked so bad. Pages had big gaps, there were html comments showing and all sorts of bad stuff. It quickly dawned on me that who ever made the website had done a pretty poor job of ensuring a modicum of cross browser compatibility. I checked in IE and it rendered fine. Here's a couple of examples:

A few of the pages suffer similar problems, whilst other only have minor faults. It makes getting around the site a real chore for those of us with the sense to use a browser that has a bit more security protection than the dreadful IE.
Now, you may be wondering why I bring this up. Well, let's see - I'm a FireFox user for starters, and looking at my logs, between 17-22% of visitors to this site are too. Let's split the difference - 20%. So potentially, 1 in 5 visitors to the National site will be having the same issues. That's a lot of people to not inspire confidence in when they visit your site. I hope the National Game people take it on themselves to give their web designers a boot in the pants sometime soon and get it sorted.
