Gala Bingo are back on the small screen with a new advert and it’s one that instantly made is wince when we saw it. The reason for this is that having watched it all the way through, our concern was that it was ripe for an investigation from the Advertising Standards Authority under the BCAP Code 17.4.5.
This code is a rule that says gambling adverts must not “be likely to be of particular appeal to under-18s, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture”. The whole Gala Bingo advert looks to be set in a circus or a funfair, both of which will hold appeal for youngsters.
Gala Bingo At Risk Like Tombola
The advert itself is reminiscent of an old Tombola advert, one that was banned by the ASA back in March 2009.
The Gala Bingo ad sees a group of friends riding a golf cart emblazoned with the colours of this well-known brand through a venue. There are balloons, bingo balls, a giant cake, a marching band and more and in the background, the Bananarama song that has been used on the most recent advertising, plays.
