Broadway Gaming Ltd, the company that owns and operates Butlers Bingo have this week had their wrists slapped by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have they were reported for misleading information on their mobile home page. The complaint was brought after their page featured a promotion on the 15th April offering “Deposit £10. Play £35”.
The complainant contacted the ASA after challenging whether the offer was misleading or not, as it failed to mention that there were wagering requirements attached to the offer before players could withdraw any winnings. Broadway Gaming Ltd apologised and started that the missing wagering requirements were an oversight, and the page was updated to include the relevant information.
ASA Assessment Of The Butlers Bingo Complaint
The ASA took a look at the complaint and considered whether the lack of information was likely to cause any misunderstandings. They noted that the wagering requirements on bonuses at Butlers Bingo for bingo games was 5x and 50x for slots and casino games. This meant if a player picked up a £25 first deposit bonus, they would have to wager £125 on bingo games or £1,250 on all other games before being able to withdraw any winnings.
They went on to say that these terms and conditions were published on the website but should have also been mentioned in the advert, as they were likely to influence a consumer’s decision on taking up the offer. They welcomed Butlers Bingo’s amendment to the advert but felt it was insufficient and likely to have misled potential player.
The advert breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 8.17 and 8.17.1 (Significant conditions for promotions) and must not appear in the future in its current form. Broadway Gaming Ltd was instructed to make sure that all future adverts include the relevant wagering requirements for promotional offers.
