Often the news we bring you here at Playing Bingo is about new brands that are launching on line, it’s quite a rarity to be reporting on the closure of a brand but in February 2013 quite a few shut their virtual doors! February also heralded the arrival of some new brands (Tickety Boo Bingo to name just one) too but the closures were more numerous.
The only site on the closures list that made an official announcement, at least one we were privy too, was BingOn. This site opened in 2009 on the NYX Interactive software before moving to Parlay in October 2011. Players to the site are now directed to Bingo Palace where their logins are valid. Parlay now has very few brands powered by their software.
Another brand to close, or at least come to our attention that it was no longer available was Wag Vegas Bingo, a Cashcade brand. Bingo Riot also joined the list of closed brands but their players were all redirected to Play 2 Win, a brand on the same software.
Four brands from the old Better Bingo Network also closed last month with all four advising their players to visit Bingo Friends. Previously Netplay TV owned Bingo Friends but when we looked into the redirection of players from the four brands (Lots of Bingo, Neighbourhood Bingo, Love 2 Bingo and Scots Bingo) we found that it is now owned by IP&S, a division of Gaming Realms, the company who owns Bingo Godz.
It has long been said that the online bingo market is saturated with brands and often we have talked of brands merging. With the Point of Consumption tax set to affect quite a number of the smaller brands in a big way, could this be a contributory factor in the decisions made to close the sites.
